Chapters 7 and 8 Summary

The rumors are flying all over school about Maybe getting attacked in the bathroom. Ted and Maybe hitch a ride home with Hollywood. Hollywood tells them it's his last day before he goes to USC for a summer class. He says he'll miss them and they say he can them anytime.

It's the day of the pageant do Maybe has the whole had to herself. She spends it watching reruns of Nelson's Neighborhood, which is a show about a contemporary family that acts retro. That night, Chessy comes in with Jake and Ridgeway and she's very upset. Jake plies Chessy with booze and tucks her in. Ridgeway tells Maybe it was an ethical contest, but Chessy thought it was "ethnical" competition instead of an "ethical" competition.
