Summary

In Part 2, Chapter 6, Andrei is contacted by Sergei, who a member of the political discussion group, as well as a member of the same recreational hockey team as Andrei. Sergei invites Andrei to join them in an anti-fascist protest. Andrei agrees. One of the people present is Yulia, the woman who originally invited Andrei to join the group. Andrei feels that he might possibly be attracted to Yulia. After the protest, they go to a bar and discuss their socialist politics. The group is called October, as a reference to the Russian Revolution. Andrei soon begins attending the group’s weekly reading/discussion sessions. Andrei becomes increasingly attracted to Yulia and learns that she is a graduate student studying Russian literature.
