Summary

In Chapter 34, Em tells Gamache that Elle had been their friend. As a child, she had lived next door to Em. Em described Elle’s personality as being one of light. Her real name was Eleanor Allaire. She took the box of letters from Gamache and said that Mother Bea had given that box to Elle when Elle left India after Elle and Mother Bea traveled there together. The letters represented their names and made the phrase “B KLM” or “be calm” (353).
