Summary

In Chapter 30, Gamache, Beauvoir and Lemieux hurried to the Hadley house to check on Crie. He knelt beside her where she sat and asked if she was okay if there was anything they could do. Crie did not respond. Out of her hearing range, Gamache told Richard he believed they had found CC’s mother and that she had been murdered as well. Gamache believed Crie might be in danger and had sent for a guard to watch the house.

In Chapter 31, a fire alarm sounded at 2:20 the following morning. Gamache, Beauvoir and Nichol went along with the members of the volunteer fire department to help.
