Summary

Mr. Whipple arrives back at the camp from buying provisions. He finds the critically injured Lemuel and unable to release the bear trap, throws him over his saddle with trap still in place and gallops off to town. Lemuel survives but loses his leg. Shagpoke cannot return to the mine without Jake Raven and stays in town to visit Lemuel in the hospital while he recovers. Shagpoke has to work for a livery in order to pay for his expenses. When Lemuel gets out, Shagpoke has the idea to set up an exhibit of his scalped skull until they find better employment. Although they are able to acquire large crowds, no one has enough money to pay to see the show and their scheme flops.
