The Morse Code had to be adapted for use in Europe when it was needed to transmit non- English-language text. The problem was that many foreign languages use diacritical marks that the Morse Code was not designed to handle. Thus, European nations worked together to create the International Morse Code, which made diacritical translation possible, in 1851.
