The transposon from Helicobacter pyloris is responsible for stomach cancer. It all starts as reduced resistance to mucosal protective mucoid polysacharide production induced by this gene often situated at the pyloric end of the stomach. This leads to unopposed action of hydrochloric acid content of the gastric juice on the cells of the mucosa leading to ulcers which when chronic in duration becomes cancerous.
