• Water is absorbed by the plant through the root.

• Absorbed water is transported to the leaf and passes out to the atmosphere through the stomata.

• The water molecules inside the plant shoot and root to create a water column.

• The water hydrogen bond then breaks down in the stomata, releasing a molecule into the atmosphere.
