Question: Science

What do Varoa mites have to do with colony collapse disorder?

Answers

Varoa mites can be devastating to a colony in that they deprive the bees of needed nutrition, causing stunting of the emerging brood. It shortens the lifespan of bees so at first scientists believed that the disappearing colonies were a result of heavy infestation of mites. Later, they ruled this out as a major factor.
