Lightning is dangerous because it is unpredictable. There is little way to predict exactly where it will strike. The best guess a forecaster can make is a geographic area. The average lightning bolt carries about 30,000 amps of charge, has 100 million volts of electric potential, and is extremely HOT at about 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
