Mutations occur rather frequently, but the mutations that cause some sort of significant impact in some way to the organism does not happen as often. Mutations also are dependent on whether the organism is male or female; most often the females becoming carriers for the mutation but not expressing it, while males will express that mutated gene (which is why so many diseases and disorders happen to males).
