how do you figure out the number of electrons?

When you observe the periodic table you will see numbers next to the elements. These list atomic weights and numbers. The atomic number is the number of protons and electrons for that element. So, Kr (krypton) has an atomic number of 36 (which means 36 protons and electrons).
