One of the biggest factors as far as temperature is concerned is how close or far a place is from the Equator. The closer you are, the warmer you are (and the more rain you are likely to have). Being located near a large body of water can trigger precipitation as well as a shift in temperatures. Cloud cover, proximity to the jet stream, and elevation are also contributing factors.
