What effect do oceans have on the temperatures of nearby land areas? Prentice Hall - Science Explorer.

The overall effect is that the ocean can absorb an incredible amount of energy (heat energy) and so when it is colder outside the ocean releases that heat, keeping coastal areas warmer.
