Religion according to karl marx in marxism is,'the opium of the poor'. In education, it is a social science and thought to be a study about God and his creation as well as modes of worshipping him.It teaches such virtues like faith, patience, hope, tolerance, love as well as respect for God and other human beings.Of course most countries have their constitution patterned after these ideals for good decorum and order. Therefore religion is a good tool for nation building where the citizens are honest and God fearing.Unfortunately it is not so nowadays as materialism and extremism have taken the shine off Religion.

The Catholic church had the advantage of being the dominant worship group at that time simply because of the occupation of Palestine by the Roman legion of old Roman empire with Rome as its headquaters.Naturally it preserved and transmitted values of religious practices it liked while eliminating the ones they didnot like then.

Protestanism crept in and the history of religion changed dramatically with the advent of pentecostalism.I hope i have helped you out.You can buy my book, Noticed rightly by God and Men on amazon.com to find out the reason for this change.
