There is an artery that runs through the tonsils and it is not common to cut it or punsture it during tonsillectomy because it breaks into sinusoidal capillaries within the tonsil tissue and it penetrates the tonsils from the bone. The mandibular divison of the trigeminal vessel. It is protected by bone at its origin so it is not accessible here and it terminates within the tissue and after tonsillectomy only pressure with little topical adrenaline will secure heamolysis in addition to body clotting mechanisms.
