Both drugs are sleeping pills as well as anti anxiety drugs that calm down someone severly agitated. On the body system specifically they reduce the firing frequency of nuerones in the reticular activating systemof the body which is responsible for wakefulness thereby causing sleep. They also enhance reuptake of dopamine at inhibitory dopaminergic ganglions which reduce inhibition and allow sleep to proceed.
