The book of ABIGAIL ADAMS: Witness to a Revolution

In Chapter Three, we learn that John Adams was often away from his Abigail on business, and that they regularly corresponded until they could be together again. John was a lawyer, they were very much in love, and they wished to marry. Abigail's mother, however, wasn't crazy about the match and didn't approve of her daughter's wish to marry a "struggling country lawyer." Her father approved.

We also learn that Adam's great-great grandparents arrived on the Mayflower in 1620. His grandmother, Hannah Bass, was highly educated and was the reason he pursued higher education. He attended Harvard.
