Stress can cause children to be shy, feaful, and reactive. On a positive note, stress accompanied by the modeling of conflict resolution, particularly by their parents, can have a positive effect.

A parent's social skills begin modeling social skills to their children before they can talk. Ahe parents often raise shy children. Exposing children to a variety of people allows them to become accustomed to new faces and develop positive social skills.

Verbal skills are also modeled by parents. Parents who talk to their children equip them for social interaction by modeling and teaching them the basics of conversation.
