Andrew Jackson refused to take action when Georgia claimed millions of acres of land that had been guaranteed to the Cherokee Indians under federal law. He also refused to enforce the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that Georgia had no authority over Native American tribal lands. As a result, yes, Jackson was largely responsible for the Trail of Tears.
