After the war was over, many soldiers wanted to find a way to honor the men who'd fallen in action... their comrades. As a result, statues were erected and dedicated, usually near battlefields. Monuments allowed soldiers, as well as the families of the fallen, to find closure... to help them heal from the psychological traumas of war.
