Wilhelm Richard Wagner (1813 -1883) was a German composer, music theorist and conductor who is primarily known for his composition of operas. Unlike many great opera composers, Wagner always took great pride in writing the scenario and libretto for his works himself. Wagner is credited with pioneering advances in musical language, greatly influenced the development of European classical music.
