Uncle Charlie was an intellectual, who lived as a Republican in a house full of Democrats. He tried to teach Russell the evils of socialism and told him that he shouldn't admire his hero, Roosevelt. Ironically, Charlie is unemployed and doesn't even look for a job..... he prefers to live off of his brother. He sleeps, reads, and drinks coffee. The books he reads are generally about politics and history.
