Cory's mother, Rebecca Mackenson, is described as an overprotective mother who has a hard time admitting that her son is growing up. She is an important influence in her son's life, and she is sometimes encouraging. When the Lady invites Cory to visit, Rebecca insists they do so even though her husband disagrees. Their meeting leads the Mackensons to understand that the Lady is really a kind, helpful woman.
