The old priest is the only one of Mme. de B's friends friends who remains with her after the start of the French Revolution. He considered himself a spiritual man rather than a religious man and often went so far as to mock religion. When Mme. de B, Ourika and Charles left Paris and moved to Saint-Germain. the old priest accompanied them.
