Who is Mary Todd Lincoln from The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery and what is their importance?

Mary Todd Lincoln was President Lincoln's wife. She was the daughter of a Kentucky banker, and when Lincoln began to court her, he made visits to many members of her family, including several who owned slaves.
