Mangla is the first woman Flashman has contact with in Lahore, and he is immediately attracted to her. She is Maharani Jeendan's servant, though she fulfills more of a role of trusted confidant and advisor. Despite her status, Mangla is one of the most powerful individuals in the Punjabi court. She is in contact with Maharani Jeendan daily. The real-life Mangla also led an interesting life. She was sold as a child and worked her way to attain both wealth and influence.
