When Flashman first meets Maharani Jeendan, she is drunk and lounging in a state of partial undress. She immediately takes an interest in Flashman, and the two go onto to have many intimate encounters.

Jeendan is described as a woman with insatiable appetites. She's had a number of lovers and always has a few standing to ensure she receives the pleasure she demands. Despite her sexual appetites, Jeendan has a genuine affection for Flashman, and over the course of the novel, she decides that she wants to marry him.

Jeendan is said to be a cold and calculating ruler. While most of the description Flashman offers seems larger than life, the editor corroborates Flashman's account in one of the appendices by citing an author who calls Maharani Jeendan "a strange blend of the prostitute, tigress, and Machiavelli's Prince."
