Judy Leventhal is Rebecca Walker's stepmother. Her father and Judy have what Rebecca considers a "normal" home life. Judy provides Rebecca with much needed guidance. After her father and step-mother move to a predominately white, upper middle class Jewish neighborhood, however, Rebecca comes to resent her stepmother, feeling that she does not accept her "blackness".
