Who is Dick Gilman from Kafka Was the Rage: A Greenwich Village Memoir and what is their importance?

Dick Gilman was one of Anatole and Sheri's friends. One evening, while visiting the couple, he made the case that Anatole was not the right match for Sheri. He did, however, believe that he, himself, was perfect for her.
