Sylvia's mother, Aurelia Plath, is often blamed by Sylvia's friends and associates for her daughter's death. In their eyes, she failed to guide her daughter and seek the help necessary for Sylvia's emotional problems. Aurelia published the book, Letters Home, which was made up of a compilation of letters that Sylvia wrote to her mother. She wanted the letters published so the world would remember Sylvia as a nice girl.
