Amani is Sultana's youngest daughter. She is described as a sweet, meek child, which makes Sultana believe she may have been switched at birth. After a Haj pilgrimage, however, Amani displays a fierceness much like her mother's when she has a spiritual awakening and becomes an Islamic fundamentalist. Amani begins wearing thick clothing and a veil. She also comes to resent her family's wealth and unnerves them with her constant criticism. Amani later becomes the leader of a women's group that preaches complete adherence to Islamic law.
