The narrator and Shotwell are locked in an underground bunker. They have been there for 133 days, during which time the narrator has begun to suffer the effects of isolation and loneliness. The men are there watching a console, waiting for the moment at which they are to launch the bird..... a nuclear attack. They each have guns, and each is ordered to shoot the other if either on them begins to act strangely. The problem? What constitutes strange? How much longer will they be there? Have they been forgotten..... and will they ever get out?
