what does Douglas refer to "manifestation of that kind providence which has ever since attended me"?

This was said shortly after Frederick Douglass was sold to someone else and he left the Great Farm. The new owners were kindly and he felt hope. It is this hope that he calls 'providence' and it is a belief that he would not always be a slave and treated badly.
