What are 2 very different ways of interpreting this bit about being a "capable father"?

The monk is considered a holy man...a father to his 'flock'. On the other hand, given that he prides himself on working outside of the rules or the norms of the traditional church, and being such a 'manly man' it is likely that he has fathered many children.
