In the story, The Worn Path,by Eudora Welty, the character Phoenix Jackson is like the mythological Phoenix in that she is able to show perserverence and determination in the face of tremendous trouble and sorrow. She literally rises from the ashes of the circumstances she finds herself in. The cycle of the mythological phoenix is one of life, death, and rebirth....this is also the cycle that Phoenix Jackson follows. It is a worn path.
