The speaker asks the skylark to share with him the secret of its joy because its happiness is not like the happiness that mankind seem to know. He is stating that man only knows happiness as an absense of pain. But, if the speaker can but know and understand this happiness of the skylark then he can write poems that will change the hearts and minds of mankind.
