Mr. Littimer, Steerforth's personal servant, is depicted as a loyal, polite, and adequate manservant. He performs the tasks that Steerforth sets before him with question. When Steerforth is finished with Emily and wants Littimer to marry her, he is more than willing..... to the point he holds her captive (criminal). In the end, it is Littimer who returns to England and informs Mrs. Dartle of what has happened.
