In context, this story serves as a reminder that the past holds great influence over our lives, that the people in our lives (predominantly family) shape who we are, even though we might not always like the way they do it.. or the things they try to teach us. Basically, this is a story about family... and how we cannot choose our family, but the way in which we can love them for who they are regardless of our differences.
