The theme is Nihilism verses Religion. The author shows the character of Zorba who who is partialy an atheist who so much believes in live for now. hwe so much enjoys pleasure and believes that, freedom begins with an individual. he says that when one enjoys the wine, eats food on the table, enjoy women and have fun is the same like paradise in heaven. unlike his friend zorba a budhist who lives by then laws set by t he society and would not do anything that goes against budhah. he forelooks all the pleasure and forcuses on living a holly and intact life. in this case the author argues it out that one needs to strike a balance between earthly pleasure and religion.
