Who is Professor Kylmer from Z for Zachariah and what is their importance?

Professor Kylmer is the scientist who invented the magnetized polymer that can repel radiation. Mr. Loomis worked for Professor Kylmer in the days before the war and helped create a radiation-repelling suit. It is this suit that enables Mr. Loomis to travel to Ann's valley and later allows Ann to escape the valley and Mr. Loomis' tyrannical ways.
