Who is Carl Merner from Your Money or Your Life and what is their importance?

Carl is a data processor, who has already attained what we would call "the American dream," but is none-the-less unfulfilled. Through the program he moves toward his goal of financial independence but worries about not having enough income for emergencies. He then makes it his project to learn about home repairs in order to take care of them himself.
