What is the conflict in Young Goodman Brown?

The story's main conflict is between Brown and the devil, but the conflict itself is centered within Goodman. Over the course of the story, he loses his faith in all of humanity and can only see their faults and their sins, and therefore loses his ability to reach out to his fellow man (even his wife) is lost.
