How does William Blake use symbolism in his poem The Sick Rose?

The rose has long been an image of love, so if the rose is sick, then it is speaking of a love that is not right and is dying. The fact that the poet introduces a worm can be taken several ways. Either the love has been polluted, or it is being eaten away by something.
