The family live relatively normal lives until the airborne toxin Nyodene Derivative infects their town and they must be evacuated. Eventually, the Gladneys are allowed to return to their home and attempt to resume their normal lives, but the incident has increased Jack and Babetteā€™s obsession with and fear of dying.
