Haghani is an Iranian American, who earned his degree in economics from the London School of Economics. He was hired by Meriwether as a part of the Arbitrage Group. Haghani's father was a wealthy importer-exporter. His mother was American. He spent time in the London and Tokyo offices of Salmon, training their employees in the style of trading of the Arbitrage Group. He worked in the London office for Long-Term Capital Management. Haghani was interested in European equity markets, which is one of the reasons that Long-Term became involved in equity arbitrage.
