Eric Rosenfeld was a Harvard professor, who'd studied under Robert Merton. Trained at MIT, he was a computer freak, and the son of a Concord, Massachusetts money manager. Rosenfeld specialized in quantitative methods and was hired by Meriwether to work in the Arbitrage Group. He became interested in the Black and Sholes model, and he induced a friend to write a computer program for investing and gambling. The friends went onto form a small successful company to market the software. Rosenfeld had an interest in equity arbitrage, and he led the firm into the European markets, along with Haghani.
