The author uses words such as "gag," "spit," "gush," and "bloody jailbreak" to suggest states of illness and imprisonment. Interestingly enough, these words also suggest possibilities "although violent" of escape. At this point in the story, however, the words act as foreshadowing, since the narrator hasn't yet becomes aware that the possibility for escape exists.
