Who is Lin Chong from Water Margin and what is their importance?

Lin Chong was an arms instructor of the Mighty Imperial Guards. He tries to retaliate when Young master Gao sets his eyes on his wife. Instead of convincing Gao to leave his wife alone, however, Lin is lured into taking a sword into the white tiger inner sanctum, then arrested for his "crime." After escaping from prison when the army fodder depot he is in charge of is burned, Lin Chong becomes a member of a band of outlaws in Liangshan Marsh.
