Elijah is one of Tengo's classmates in Johannesburg. He is involved in a movement among the students, whose purpose is to protest the substandard education afforded to blacks. Elijah is arrested during a home raid after protesting outside of the school. As a result, he is forced to spend almost a year in jail.
